Abstract

A newly developed method has been used to characterize the fluctuations in a unidirectional ring laser with a small number of modes. The technique of first passage time (FPT) distributions has been used earlier to study quantum (additive) and pump (multiplicative) noise in single-mode dye ring lasers.1 When applied to a two-mode laser, the FPT distributions may be double-peaked.
