Abstract

Active and passive intersecting waveguides can be used as TE-TM mode splitters, wavelength selective devices, electro-optic switches and modulators, interferometric sensors etc. Because of the topological simplicity, e.g reduced number of S-bends, these are promising for high levels of integration. A 4x4 completely non-blocking switch array based on intersecting waveguide approach has been fabricated on LiNbO3:TiO). In this paper, we report the preliminary experimental results on mode, loss and cross-talk characteristics of passive intersecting waveguides fabricated from single heterostructure (SH) and multiple-quantum-well (MQW) double hetero-structures of GaAs/AlxGa1-xAs.
