Abstract

The acoustooptical coupling of guided to substrate modes in optical waveguides can find several attractive applications in integrated optics. Among them are a RF-spectrum analyzer of very simple construction, one- and two-dimensional beam scanners etc. Several papers have been published on this subject (see e.g. [1,2]); however, all experimental investigations demonstrated a very low coupling efficiency of some percent for watts of acoustical power.
