Abstract
High-power semiconductor laser arrays are well known to emit at high-power levels of the order of 1 W. These devices consist of a number of parallel real-refractive or gain waveguides, which are sufficiently similar and closely coupled to phase lock. Thus the waveguide lasers exhibit some degree of coherence, and their outputs add In phase thereby radiating high power without excessive power density at the laser facet.
