Chaotic Behavior in a CO2 Ring Laser with Injected Signal

Abstract

Laser instabilities and chaotic behavior have been observed in several single mode laser systems. In the case of homogeneously broadened media with rapidly relaxing polarization rates, it has been theoretically predicted that introduction of an unmodulated external field can destabilize the system (1). In the case of such lasers with an injected signal, numerical results show the existence of a self Q-switch process with induced relaxation oscillations (2).
