Raman Cooling of Solids through Density of States Engineering

Not Accessible

Abstract

We show that engineering the 3D optical density of states of highly transparent solids can permit selective enhancement of anti-Stokes Raman scattering over Stokes scatte-ring. When implemented through a diamond-structure photonic crystal in silicon, laser cooling using pure Raman scattering can be achieved.
