Abstract

Photonic technologies provide a strong platform for the construction of neuromorphic processing systems, due to the potential for ultrafast, low-power operation on hardware-friendly implementations. One device, the Vertical Cavity Surface Emitting Laser (VCSEL) has demonstrated neural spiking behaviour ideal for such photonic neuromorphic processing [1].
