Abstract

Langmuir-Blodgett (LB) films containing monolayers of the rare-earth ions are attracting much interest from both the fundamental point of view and possible applications, as they can be treated as a perfect 2D magnetic systems. At the same time, the existence of the magnetic ordering in the monolayer of magnetic atoms is still questionable. In this paper the nonlinear optical and magnetic properties of the LB films containing monolayers of Gd ions are studied by means of the optical second harmonic generation (SHG) technique.
