Abstract

This work is an extension of earlier studies of amplification without inversion (AWI) on media where high density or presence of buffer gas cause collisional dephasing of atomic coherences. Any realistic experiment which aims at lasing without inversion with strong gain should consider means to achieve efficient incoherent pumping, and collisions seem to be the simplest possibility. The present study provides some insight into the feasibility of different level schemes in this context.
