Abstract
The formation and propagation of spatial solitons in planar waveguides are among the most interesting phenomena of nonlinear optics. The existence of these self-guided beams could be demonstrated for some materials with a focusing Kerr-like nonlinearity. Within the last years polymers became more and more popular in optics. Their linear and nonlinear behaviour can be tailored by standard chemical procedures. We now report the first experimental observation of spatial solitons in polymer waveguides.
