Interference in climbing a quantum ladder system with frequency-chirped laser pulses

Abstract

The rubidium 5s-5p-5d ladder is climbed with a frequency-chirped laser pulse. The total population transfer is observed to oscillate as function of chirp. This is due to interference between two excitation schemes.
