Abstract
Recent improved theoretical methods have yielded Stark shifts of transitions accurate to 0.1%.1 The experimental work to date has primarily studied alkali atoms.2–4 We have undertaken the study of the transition between the ground and first excited state in ytterbium and barium. This yields accurate information about wavefunctions that can facilitate our understanding of multielectron atoms.
