Reach Extenders Based on Optical Amplification for XGPON1 Optical Access Networks

Abstract

Reach Extenders based on Semiconductor Optical Amplifiers are experimented on a commercial prototype XGPON1 system. Bidirectional performances are evaluated and improved using a novel SOA operation. Up to 50dB of optical budget is obtained.
