Abstract

We experimentally demonstrate a synaptic receptor for 2.5 Gb/s frequency-coded signals, functionally integrating weighting and single-ended photodetection based on a Fabry-Perot (FP) type semiconductor optical amplifier (SOA) monolithically integrated with a reflective electro-absorption modulator (REAM). Comparison is made with a micro-ring assisted receptor.
