Abstract
A novel four-dimensional multi-level coding architecture is proposed in which only 1.5 bit/complex symbol are soft decoded, leading to an additional 25% power-savings compared to existing coding architectures. Simulation results confirm that these savings are achieved without performance loss, while maintaining compatibility with probabilistic-constellation-shaping.
