Holography: Just a Fancy Word for Interferometry?

Open Access Open Access

Abstract

In holography, we create a “holistic” representation of a light wave from the coherent superposition of measurement and reference beams. We shift the light phase to detect the complex amplitude. This sounds a lot like interferometry! Here I explore how advances in digital signal processing are driving a convergence of the two techniques.
