Abstract

It is well known that there are several advantages inherent in the coherent mode of operation. These include the ability to achieve near quantum-limited performance in the thermal IR where detectors are intrinsically noisy, and the availability of Doppler information. There are however some additional properties of this mode of operation which to date have not been fully exploited.
