Abstract

This review sets out to examine the technologies available to engineers designing space-based coherent CO2 laser radars of the kind which might be used for global atmospheric sounding. The purpose is not to generate a specific design but to consider the principles which must be adhered to to achieve success. We assume the following operating parameters [1].
