Abstract

This paper describes a high-repetition-rate pulsed CO2 laser which is presently being fabricated at the United Technologies Research Center for delivery to the Los Alamos National Laboratory for use in photochemistry studies. The major design goal of the program is to produce 100 mJ per pulse in a single-transverse-mode, 100 nsec gain-switched spike on the 10P(20) CO2 laser transition at repetition rates to 1000 Hz. The operating characteristics of this laser are compatible with those required for frequency-stable laser radar systems for remote wind sensing, remote species detection, and for tracking and ranging.
