Controlling Thermal and Nonlinear Optical Instabilities in Fiber Amplifiers

Abstract

We suppress transverse mode instability and stimulated Brillouin scattering in a multimode fiber by exciting many modes. High beam quality is maintained, and the output beam profile can be controlled by shaping the input wavefront.
