Abstract

In optical communication systems, signals are degraded by factors, such as amplified spontaneous emission (ASE) noise, attenuation and dispersion. A hard limiter can be considered as a device to recover degraded signals. However, to the best of our knowledge, an all-optical hard limiter (AOHL) with characteristics close to those of an ideal hard limiter has not been reported.
