Abstract

The trivalent Praseodymium-ion (Pr3+) is of growing interest as an active ion for visible lasers based on solid state materials. As Pr3+ emits directly in the visible spectral range, no frequency conversion is necessary to generate visible laser emission. Hence Pr3+-doped materials can be used for efficient and compact laser systems. Such may find application in e.g. spectroscopy, medicine, and projectors.
