Abstract
Ultra-wideband radio technology (UWB-RT) is intended for short range communications of a few meters and uses a very low transmitted power (power density lower than −41.3dBm/MHz) in accordance with the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) regulation [1]. UWB over optical fiber technology offers an efficient solution to extend the reach of the UWB signal across the building or medium range networks. In this work, we evaluate the reach that can be achieved in a UWB over fiber system based on an externally injected gain switched laser (EI GSL) [2].
