Measurements of the Raman gain coefficient in a barium nitrate crystal for the spectral region of Ti:Sapphire laser

Abstract

The Raman conversion of Ti: Sapphire laser radiation is one of the actual problems in the creation of all solid-state laser systems tunable in a broad spectral region [1]. The Ti:Sapphire laser has a record value of the tuning range (690-970 nm) and this range can be shifted by stimulated Raman scattering further in the IR region. The use for this purpose a barium nitrate crystal is very attractive because it has a highest value of the Raman gain coefficient (47 cm/GW at 532 nm wavelength). But at present the values of the Raman gain coefficient for this crystal in the spectral region of Ti:Sapphire laser are unknown. This complicates a development of Raman converters on the barium nitrate crystal for such lasers.
