Abstract

Solid state lasers scale to high average power through a variety of architectures, including rods, thin-disks, thick-disks, fibers, and zig-zag slabs. Most effort has been focussed on the gain media Nd:YAG, Nd:glass, Yb:YAG and Yb:SiO2. In this talk, the various architectures being pursued at LLNL will be reviewed, including lasers based on the: kW-class Yb:YAG rod, thin-disk Yb:YAG, a multi-core fiber "ribbon structure," and the 100J diode-pumped Yb:S-FAP gas-cooled thick-disk laser.
