Abstract
The properties of Cr2+: ZnSe, in particular its high thermal conductivity, low excited state absorption (ESA), high emission cross-section and ~1000 nm broad fluorescence bandwidth give it enormous potential as a material for tunable and ultrashort-pulsed laser sources. This paper presents the results of investigation of spectroscopical as well as laser properties of Cr2+: ZnSe laser, operating in cw, pulsed and actively mode-locked regimes.
