Abstract
This paper examines the variation in the optical output of different longitudinal modes of a self-pulsating, multiple-quantum well AlGalnP/GalnP laser diode that incorporates a number of epitaxially integrated absorbing quantum wells that act as a saturable absorber [1]. Spectrally-resolved time-domain measurements using a monochromator and photon-counting detector are compared with a multi-mode rateequation model. Time-resolved spontaneous emission measurements are also taken.
