Abstract
Multi-quantum-well (MQW) InGaAsP laser diodes are widely used as signal sources in fiber optical communication, measurement and sensing systems. The excess low-frequency (1/f type) noise, on one hand, deteriorates the spectral and modulation characteristics of the lasers. On the other hand, the low-frequency optical and electrical noise studies also can serve as a very sensitive diagnostic tool for laser quality and reliability assessment.
