Nonvolatile holographic storage in lithium tantalate with a two–step process using continuous–wave laser light

Abstract

Photorefractive crystals like iron-doped lithium niobate (LiNbO3) and lithium tantalate (LiTaO3) are suitable for holographic data storage because of their large dark storage times. One crucial problem which occurs in this context is the volatility of stored information during readout. To overcome this problem two–color recording with cw laser light has been demonstrated in near–stoichiometric LiNbO3 [1].
