Abstract

Gratings are important components for optoelectronic applications such as high reflectivity mirrors in distributed Bragg reflector (DBR) lasers and as wavelength dependent filters. Most theoretical methods use the coupled mode theory which is only suitable for very shallow etched structures. As the etch depth of the structure increases, radiation becomes important, and must be included in the calculation.
