Abstract
We report on a novel system consisting of a tapered semiconductor laser amplifier driven by a diode-pumped microcrystal Nd:YAG master laser oscillator. With this kind of system it is possible to combine the excellent spatial and spectral beam quality of a microcrystal solid-state laser and the high electrical to optical power conversion efficiency of a semiconductor amplifier. The system has the capability of hybride integration and has a theoretical wall-plug efficiency of more than 25%.
