Abstract
In the context of free space communication systems, one needs laser beams of at least 1 W power modulated at GHz frequencies, usually delivered by a MOPA (Master Oscillator Power Amplifier) configuration. To allow coherent detection, a stable narrow band source is required, the polarization state must be stable and controllable at the amplifier output and the phase noise must be kept low. The master oscillator is a single frequency Nd:YAG laser emitting at 1.06 µm.
