Abstract
It is shown how the algebra of weighted orientational averaging1 may be extended to model the temporal evolution of nonlinear optical phenomena Illustration of the technique is made with specific reference to the decay of second harmonic intensity encountered, for example, in chromophore enriched polymers initially poled by application of an electrostatic field.2 Surface specific second harmonic generation (SHG) is also examined with regard to providing, in comparison to other well-established methods,3 a more accurate measurement of the orientations of surface species.
