Abstract
Nd3+, Cr3+-codoped YAG single crystal fabricated by the Verneuil method was developed by Kiss and Duncan1 in 1964. An energy transfer from the 3d bands (2E state) of the Cr3+ ions to the 4f band (4F3/2 state) of the Nd3+ ions in the YAG was observed for this material, and that doubly doped system operated as a cross-pumped cw laser. In a YAG crystal, Cr3+ ions, as well as Nd3+ ions, play an important role for sensitizing.
