Abstract

Strontium-Lanthanum Aluminate (ASL) is a new material related to the previously known LNA and with composition: Sri1-xNdyLax-yMgxAl12-x019. This crystal is Czochralski-grown by Crismatec in France (Patent pending). At the difference of LNA crystals, ASL can be grown both along a and c directions, the c direction being the preferred one for laser action. ASL has a magnetoplumbite structure and the compositions are chosen with 0<x<1. As Nd is a constituent ion, the crystal lattice can have a high concentration of this ion, much higher than for Nd:YAG. Co-doping with Cr ions can also be obtained.
