Abstract
For electro-optic (EO) device applications, EO polymers must have a large EO coefficient and good thermal stability after poling. We developed an EO polyimide with nonlinear optical (NLO) chromophores as side chains, which is expected to have a high EO efficiency because of its high-density NLO chromophores and a good thermal stability because of its polyimide backbone. The side-chain polyimide we developed showed a large EO coefficient and longterm thermal stability at 120°C. Using the EO polyimide, we fabricated waveguide devices.
