Abstract
High-speed polarisation self-switching has already been successfully demonstrated in external-cavity semiconductor lasers1,2 and in an AlGaAs/GaAs verticalcavity surface-emitting laser (VCSEL)3 using external cavity feedback. Theoretical studies predict that this process could reach ultrahigh operation frequencies of tens of gigahertz.4 Applications for such high-speed switching include all-optical clocking, optical interconnects, and integrated optoelectronic circuits.
