Abstract
Multichromophoric (antenna) dyes (MCD) are frequently discussed as potential high-efficiency laser media. Appropriately designed MCDs have the potential to completely absorb the pump light already at a low concentration. The correspondingly low reabsorption of laser light should permit a much more efficient lasing action than in the parent dye. However, so far this expectation was not borne out by experiments.
