Abstract

In this letter we report on CulnSSe-doped glasses used as a saturable absorber for passive mode-locking of a Nd:YAG and Nd:YAlO3 lasers. Ultrashort pulses of 16 ps duration with 20 µj of energy (for YAlO3 at 1.08µm), and 36 ps duration with 45µj of energy (for YAG at 1.064µm) are achieved, respectively. The bleaching relaxation time of CuInSSe-doped glass saturable absorber is found to be ~11 ps. The optical damage threshold for CuInSSe-doped glasses estimated from the intensity dependent transmittance measurement with the use of laser pulses of 15 ps duration was ~20 GW/cm2.
