Laser excitation sources for chromium-doped forsterite: a comparative study

Abstract

In this paper we report a comparative study of the performance of chromium-doped forsterite lasers pumped by a range of pulsed lasers. The results include the first feasibility studies of ultraviolet excitation and ruby laser pumping. Chromium-doped forsterite laser performance is assessed with three other sources: first and second harmonics of Nd:YAG and titanium-doped sapphire.
