Giant Nonresonant Nonlinearity in Bulk Tellurium Pumped with a Femtosecond 10µm Laser

Abstract

We measure Tellurium's χ(3) nonlinear response in its optical transparency window using z-scan and SPM methods. n2,eff is found to be 5x10-12 cm2/W (>100x larger than GaAs), enabling future ultrathin photonic devices.
