Excessive Power Penalty due to Strong External Reflection on an Isolator Free DFB Laser Diode Transmitter

Abstract

The effect of external feedback on output power penalty of an isolator free DFB laser diode transmitter was investigated experimentally. It was found that more than 1.5 dB power penalty occurred at -8dB external reflection which caused extra light input into an mPD.
