Design of a silicon optical modulator using photonic crystal Mach-Zehnder interferometer

Abstract

We designed an ultra-small photonic crystal light modulator using Mach Zhender interferometer (MZI). For active control we used the group velocity dispersion of the defect mode in the photonic crystal slab that was filled up with electro-optic polymer in its holes. We demonstrated the efficient active control of lightwave by the MZI where each arm has different group velocities.
