Nonlinear hot-image formation of an intense laser beam through self-defocusing media

Abstract

We demonstrate that hot image may be formed through a thin self-defocusing medium as through a thin self-focusing medium, due to the creation of similar Fresnel zone plates by nonlinear refraction. This implies self-defocusing media should be carefully used in an intense laser system to avoid damage to other optical components.
