Tunable Narrow-band Terahertz Generation based on Quasi Phase Matching Structures by Femtosecond Pulses

Abstract

Terahertz generation was demonstrated around 1~3THz via difference frequency generation (DFG) using femtosecond pulses in a periodically poled lithium niobate (PPLN) and stoichiometric lithium tantalate (PPSLT) crystals. Two different types of terahertz radiation, forward and backward, could be generated in the quasi-phase matching (QPM) structures by the DFG process. A backward terahertz radiation was measured around 1.3 THz at PPLN and 3 TEz at PPSLT. The frequency of terahertz radiation can be controlled by varying the QPM structures.
