Abstract

A new, uniquely simple method for complete amplitude-phase characterization of broadband laser pulses is suggested and demonstrated experimentally. The spectral phase is determined from the fundamental and second-harmonic spectrogram of the interference between the test pulse and its chirped replica. The technique allows measuring pulses down to a single cycle in duration.
