Abstract
Ultra-high-speed optical time-division multiplexed systems, operating at single stream rate of 100 Gbps, may offer important operating advantages over other multiplexing schemes.1 Increased "intelligence" within the network to perform dynamic routing which enables packet service and truly flexible bandwidth on demand is one such advantage. The architectures and operating performance which can be expected from these systems are governed by transmission limitations as well as the availability of key technologies. In this talk, we present recent developments in the architecture and technology for ultra-high-bit-rate networks.
