Virtual-point-source diode-array-pumped Nd:YAG laser

Abstract

High-power diode-laser-pumped solid-state lasers have remarkably progressed in recent years. Many end-pumping and side-pumping configurations have been studied for efficient high-power and single transverse mode operation. In this paper, we report on a novel scalable pumping configuration for high-power TEM00 mode operation called virtual-point-source multipass-pumping with an optically thin rod. First prototype system with 32 1W fiber-coupled LDs has been reported in ref. 1.
