Abstract

Compact solid state blue (492 nm) Pr3+ doped fluorozirconate fibre upconversion lasers have great potential for applications in information storage, etc. Whilst there has been rapid progress with this type of laser,1 the realisation of a practical system requires better laser performance. This paper presents theoretical and experimental results for a blue Pr3+-doped fluoride fibre upconversion laser using a high NA fibre which demonstrate such an improvement.
