A fiber-ring-resonator with stable eigenstate of polarization using twisted single-mode optical fiber

Abstract

To measure a tiny phase shift in optical sensor systems, fiber-ring-resonators are used in place of fiber interferometers because of the higher sensitivity. However the fiber-ring-resonator has an essential problem that the output becomes unstable due to the change of eigenstate of polarizations. This paper proposes a novel resonator composed of two portions of twisted single-mode-fiber, which realizes stable circular eigenstates of polarization.
